Research Topic Proposal

For my research topic I would like to answer the question: Are student athletes typically less successful in academics than those students who do not participate in any athletics? It is a common belief that student athletes are “dumb,” and do not excel academically. However, I do not believe that this is true and would like to research this topic further to see if this assumption is true or not. In order to research this topic, I have chosen to limit this to high school students, and therefore use a high school that I work at to provide for my research. I will be able to interview both student athletes and students who are not involved in athletics, and also teachers. I will also hopefully be able to compare the grades of those students as well.
